Many have heard of Jane Austen, few of Fanny Burney who was an inspiration and contemporary to Miss Austen. I thoroughly enjoy Fanny Burney's books because even though they are classical literature, she still knows how to weave a story, transporting the reader back to a much simpler, and yet more brutal era. Though not as good as Jane Austen, I still think that every Austenite should read at least one of Fanny's novels.

Jane Austin fans will love this book, too, but don't read this edition. We are asked to "forgive any missing and extraneous characters" but this book is almost impossible (or should I say impoffible) to read. Here is an example "Her difpofition v;ti,.r/.!iMt in'finGerity,..." (pg 67). I'm actually struggling through it as an exercise for my brain, but I've ordered a copy from another pubisher. The origianal book was published it several volumes and this is only Vol. 1.
