After receiving an anonymous threat, Kimberly Townsend's only hope for her little boy is his father, billionaire Luc Santono. But it's been seven years since he left Kimberly behind, and he doesn't even know he has a son! And while he may dismiss Kimberly's pleas for money as the lies of a shallow gold digger, it's certainly no lie that she's prepared to do anything for her child...…

Kimberly has received a blackmail note asking for 5 million. (too bad that we are not privy to the contents of this note) Kimberly doesn't have that kind of money, but the man that unknowingly fathered her child does. So Kimberly yanks up her big girl panties and heads off to get Luc to give her some cash to satisfy the blackmailer. She hasn't seen Luc since she believed he was cheating on her and walked away. (BTW, Luc had orchestrated that event because . . . well he is typical . . . afraid of his feelings and wants to put a stop to them!) Soon after Kimberly had left him it appears that she is just another gold digger - because apparently Kimberly had some credit cards that she used once he had kicked her to the curb. Or was it she had kicked him to the curb for his cheating? Doesn't really matter in the end, I suppose. At any rate, in order for Luc to give Kimberly the money he wants two weeks w/ her and he does NOT believe that there is a kid it's just a tactic the little gold digger is using.

I like the dynamics b/w Kimberly and Luc and how he didn't truly believe her about the child given what he believed of her gold digging traits. Of course, Kimberly didn't exactly get a DNA test either, but perhaps she really didn't want Luc back in their lives and she only went to him for the cash anyway.

You will have to get past this scared mom leaving her child for two weeks when he was virtually threatened by some blackmailer (see would have been nice to know the contents of that little note. However, I just figured since she paid the blackmailer and they are notoriously trustworthy she figured the kid was safe. LOL!) and see that both Kimberly and Luc really do care about each other. Did I want to smack Luc a few times? You betcha! When he sees the little mini-me he gets mad that she never told him - uh did you forget that the whole reason she came to see you is to get help for the wee one. Also let's not forget that she did try to contact you years ago, but you put up a lot of road blocks so that she couldn't. Yes, Kimberly could have tried harder and probably should have over the years and frankly okay she could use a nice tap as well!

Luc gets jealous and all alpha man when he believes she may have some other guy in her life - I'm guessing he had had several someones over the years since Kimberly though. Yet she didn't seem overly upset by this. Kimberly does get a few smarmy comments to Luc too and that helped. I truly believed that these two loved each other in the end and I didn't even need those rose colored glasses.

One of my problems was that if he was so overly concerned w/ the credit cards: why didn't he cancel them, wouldn't the purchases show up on the statements and he would be able to tell what she purchased and then he would have known before that she was buying things for a child. Maybe he was just so dense and he didn't think about it, but seriously . . . why not?
She doesn't give in easily to him either, she makes him work for things and that was a nice change too. Also during their two weeks he even allows, okay was tricked, into handing over control to her and I liked that as well!

MillionDollar LoveChild Harlequin comics eBook Sarah Morgan Yoko Yokota Reviews

There are two kinds of books that prompt me to write a review. Ones that are deserving of glory and ones that stupefies me with wonder at how it got out of the editors trash bin. This one is the latter.
The main female character in this book is not a doormat. I think for once i wish that she would have been. At least then she would have been more tolerable. But she's worse. The female lead is a 25 year old woman with the mind set of an 18 year old. And to be absolutely honest I was not expecting that. Usually when /very/ young woman has children early in the books that i read they tend to be somewhat more mature.
The book never kept me riveted enough to find out what it is that our lead, Kimberly, does for work but we know that she works from home so that she's with her child. At first i thought that maybe she continued with her education and perhaps got a degree in IT software studies or Computer programming or accounting but after reading on I realize that she may not have been so 'academically inclined'. Surprise surprise when i find her career choice, at 18, was to be a model. I felt a little bad for agreeing with her parents to decline from being in her life. Not because of her career choice mind you but because she doesn't suggest any alternate choices. What happens when we put all our eggs in one basket? I have met models and perhaps it was just the crowd i was with but they all some kind of option should their career choice not work out. An accounting degree, photography, graphic arts, dance, music, math, something that could get them another job.As it turns out she doesn't do too much thinking at all She is going to meet a businessman that she had an affair with 7 years ago (an affair that ended badly mind you) with no photo of her child, no receipts to show what she bought with his cards, doesn't even mention a child until a good while arguing about justifying her purchases after they broke up and then asks for help. Now i don't know how the offer of $5M got on the table but I have to say I can kinda see what Luc is rally paying for and why he takes it all in stride. She literally has no evidence of a child. And as i mother I would be mentioning my child who is being threatened constantly. Or left and taken it to the authorities. In fact I would have done that before flying across two continents to beg his father for air when i left all the evidence of a child back in my flat.
This female character seemed to only pretend to be independent. I don't quite know what all her arguing and fussing was about. Or what the hoopla about control was either because she seemed only too happy to give it over to Luc when showed up. And that scene with the handcuffs... just as fake as her front about being an independent woman.
The male lead is better developed but it is possible that the reason for that is the fact that there so many copies of him in the romance literature world. I have to give him this; he must have still loved Kimberly because if an ex stormed into my office mentioning their reasons for leaving I'd have them escorted out of my building and back to damn airport. And after all that arguing then mentions a son in danger. She had to know that being wealthy can make a man skeptic and opted out of packing clothes and just brought the receipts...
One thing does bother me about the Luc; he never took a look at his credit card bill. This woman bought a /flat/ with his credit card. But then i presume that he has a LOT of money and anything under 6 zeros is unworthy of his attention and he had to be super pissed. Must be nice. And you see the stark difference once he does realize he has a son. He jumps into action.
This made me sad that you get a good way through the book before you get any real interaction with Rio. And then the first thing out of his mouth is not "Hello," it was "You look like me." Those are some of the strangest words to come from a child meeting someone for the first time. No question one heritage or parentage. I guess he takes after his mother that way...
This book was not only predictable but the characters were exceptionally underdeveloped. I had no connection with the characters i should have and I'm very disappointed in this book.
Harlequin needs to lower the cost on books that aren't exceptionally reviewed. Two starts because I can't fault the book on predictably but the rest of it was tragic to read.
I hate not finishing a book but boy it started off with potential then stroked out until 75% then tapped out again until 94%. All the parts we needed to know are skipped over like " two weeks and two months later". They never talk until the end! How can you love someone you don't know? You're in love with the idea of being in love not love. I don't know if it's just me or Harlequin is just becoming more lackluster as the days go by. Boy I wish the writer had developed the plot more. Lost potential.
