Every Last Breath The Dark Elements Jennifer L Armentrout Books
Every Last Breath wasn’t the epic conclusion that I was hoping for, but it was still thoroughly enjoyable. It picks up exactly where we left off and things are not pleasant. Layla and Company have no clue how to get rid of the Lilin, but whatever they need to do it isn’t going to be easy. Layla also starts going through even more changes in terms of her abilities and appearance. Is she actually changing into something else, or is this normal for whatever it is she is? There’s also the matter of where her heart lies, as she knows she can’t keep going back and forth forever. We’ll start with the conclusion of the love triangle. It’s actually decided pretty close to the beginning of Every Last Breath which caught me off guard! In a way, I’m glad it wasn’t dragged out. But it was also really sudden. When did Layla have time to make that decision with everything going on?! I can’t say if I was happy with her decision or not, because that would be a spoiler! I do wish there had been a little more build up and explanation as to why she chose him (other than he’s who the fans voted for).
The plot of Every Last Breath was fast paced as always, but I found that I wasn’t as hooked as the previous books. There’s a lot going on, but some of it felt really convenient. Not that it was necessarily easy for the characters, but more like “Of course that’s how it works!” kind of thing. If that makes sense. I wanted a bit more from it, because gargoyles and demons are an unusual pair so there maybe should have been more unusual circumstances.
In the end, Every Last Breath was a good ending. It was fun, entertaining, and even had some steamy scenes!

Every Last Breath The Dark Elements Jennifer L Armentrout Books Reviews
Fabulous end to a absolutely fantastic series. Although I'm not ready to say goodbye to everyone and this world that Jennifer L. Armentrout created, I do feel like she wrapped up things in a satisfying way. I do hope that maybe one day she revisits this world but otherwise I'm happy with how everything went down.
Roth, oh Roth how I loved and adored him. He has grown so much from the first book until this one and I simply adore him. I love the connection that him and Layla have with one another. I love that they "get" each other and are just so right together.
Every Last Breath was everything that I was hoping for and so much more. It definitely lived up to my expectations and then some. Another winner for Jennifer L. Armentrout!
This is the conclusion to the series and ALL the fans have been dying to know who Layla will choose! I won't spoil it and tell who it is either. LOL
The story picks up where book 2 ended. The story delivered everything I could hope for and more! It had suspense, action, humor, emotion, romance (some may call it cheesy, but whatever. I loved it!), and so much swoon my heart couldn't take much more!
I loved the characters and how they've changed from book 1 until now. Layla has always been a strong female, but she's grown in strength both physically and emotionally. She's put on her big girl panties and began to realize she would have to make tough choices and learn to deal with the outcomes. Zayne is still his sweet self, who was a strong male presence. Then there's Roth. He had so much character growth it was unreal. He's so swoon worthy, and breaks my heart with the words that come out of his mouth. We also have the amazing side characters who bring their own bunch of awesomeness to the table.
Then there's the plot and twists! Holy guacamole! My heart was pounding as I read as fast I could, flipping pages to read what would happen next. This was truly a great conclusion to the series. Well done, Jen!
This review is going to have spoilers, because you can’t really review this book without having spoilers. So if you don’t know who Layla chose, don’t want to know, stop reading now.
If you’ve been around here at all, you know of my undying love for Jennifer L. Armentrout. I think she’s a writing goddess and I love everything of hers that I read. That being said, Every Last Breath didn’t grip me like I wanted it to. Of course I was pleased with Layla’s choice, and there were plenty of Layla and Roth scenes…I don’t know, it just felt a little…shallow to me. Especially compared to the Covenant and Lux series.
So much of this book is spent with Layla and Roth…lots of making out (a JLA specialty) and lots of worrying about the Lilin. It felt like the actual plot only happened in a few places. I’m not really complaining, because I love Layla and Roth, and their resolution was delightful, but JLA is usually better about balancing the plot and the romance. And everything seemed to wrap up fairly quickly and easily. There’s a nice and interesting scene where Layla goes down into Hell and talks to Death; this was probably the most interesting scene plot-wise. There were some action scenes against the Lilin, and I thought the resolution there was interesting, with Layla’s connection to it and Lilith.
I think my favorite thing about this series are the familiars. Like, what a brilliant idea to have tattoos that can literally come off your body and turn into awesome evil fighting creatures? And Roth having all the different types, from adorable kittens to monstrous dragon, was just a really fun addition. Layla getting a familiar was really entertaining, though Bambi will probably always be everyone’s favorite.
So this is a good ending to a very romantic series by JLA. Not my favorite, but still an entertaining read. I hope her next follows a little bit more along the lines of Lux or Covenant. I feel like maybe she rushed this one a little, since now she seems to pop out a new book every other week. But no matter. I think fans of the series will really enjoy this conclusion.
