Survive Cascade Book 1 eBook Phil Maxey

First point--Every sci-fi/TEOTWAWKI/alt-history story begins with an individual-, world- or universe-altering event, and this one is unique in my 60+ years of reading every genre. I'm intrigued by the characters, their reactions and solutions to some creative and well-developed 'alien' threats. The action and suspense are truly engaging, and I've already purchased the rest of the series as it currently exists. These positives are, sadly, adversely impacted by--
Point 2-- By page 3 or 4, I could tell that this book was typed or dictated in a program with auto-correct, which, as we increasingly realize every day, is a frustrating, distracting impediment to understanding and enjoyment. Indeed, I suspect the book was dictated into a system that got confused both by pronunciation and grammar preferences that are easily identifiable as the Queen's English. Errors might also arise from subject or verb antecedents that confound the AI recording the story. I know this same issue appears in nearly all my reviews, but failure to proofread degrades the credibility of the story and the author. Yes, internet publishing allows everyone to tell, and hopefully sell, their creations, but it also puts responsibility on the writer to do their (frequently spelled "there" in this book) best to improve the reader's experience. In the past, I would have given fewer stars because of these gross errors, but I'm becoming too complacent in my dotage.

Survive Cascade Book 1 eBook Phil Maxey Reviews

Well, post - apocalyptic has a new master and his name is Phil Maxey. Undead? That is girl scout cookies compared to this. Just when I think I can't be surprised and/or scared this author has done both. And as a fan of this genre, I have been reading this and sci-fi since I was 8 years old (and I'm 62 now). Thank goodness this is only the first novel. I have soooo much to look forward to. A truly horrific story that is very unsettling. Please note this author and his books. If you are a fan of dystopian post - apocalyptic stories you are in for a treat. Be prepared to miss a few meals and get harassed by your spouse for missing your to do list. This is NOT to be missed, I kid you not!
I actually liked this book but gave it three stars because the editing is so bad. There were some sentences I had to read twice to understand what he meant. Also, lots of grammar errors...but with that said I will definitely be reading the next book. It really is an interesting story and I like the characters. Please get a better editor. I would proof read for free!
I really wanted to give this 5 stars. I enjoyed where the plot was going and it was a pretty fun apocalyptic novel with a fresh take. And I really cared about some of the characters. But the spelling! And the grammar! It kept popping me out of the book and really there is no excuse! A child could have proofed this and done a better job.
I gave this book three stars because the story line was good and interesting. That being said, this had to be the worst book I have ever read. The writer desperately needs a competent editor to fix the spelling, grammar, punctuation and syntax errors; either that or a ghost writer to take his ideas and write a decent book. I actually had to re-read numerous sentences over several times to figure out what he meant.
I really enjoyed the writing in this book, and if the grammar was not perfect I didn't care because I found the story quite entertaining.
How refreshing to read an apocalyptic story that doesn't involve zombies!
You keep writing, Phil. You've got some interesting ideas. I've already bought the second book and I look forward to digging into it!
The story is good and kept my attention. The bad thing is that the author must not have had a proofreader and didn't even look over his book himself. There are words used that didn't fit and obviously were supposed to be a different one, and some lines and phrases are repeated, and words were misspelled. The punctuation was bad, also. I kept thinking the author was either a fifth grader or never took an English class. It deserves three stars for the story but the other problems were really distracting. He could have at least ended the book more satisfactorily instead of the worst cliffhanger I ever came across in any other series.
Sometimes I need a new perspective on an old story. Having animals evolve into the monsters instead of people becoming zombies was a great idea. However, releasing this book with all of the atrocious spelling and grammar mistakes was not a great idea.
I've read the first two books and am willing to work my way through number 3, but the author really, really needs to get a proofreader stat!
